What is the Carers Community Fund?

Drawing upon funding from the Department of Health and Social Care’s (DHSC) Accelerating Reform Fund (ARF) and building upon the success of the RBWM Innovation Fund (2022-2025), the Carers Community Fund aims at improving the health and wellbeing of unpaid carers in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

Rather than allocating funding directly through the local authority, the Carers Community Fund empowers residents and organisations to create local solutions to local issues. Whereas the RBWM Innovation Fund has previously funded activities and organisations across the borough to tackle general health inequalities amongst residents, the Carers Community Fund develops this idea by targeting funding to groups whose ideas and innovations will directly support the health and wellbeing of unpaid carers.

RBWM Carers Community Fund – What is the aim?

The aim of the RBWM Carers Community Fund is to support the development and/or expansion of voluntary and community support for unpaid carers in the Royal Borough. By empowering local communities and organisations to co-design innovative solutions, we can make sure support for unpaid carers is targeted and addresses the issues that affect them most.

The council is looking to fund a range of projects across the borough that address unpaid carers need for respite, breaks, mental health support, health and wellbeing, leisure activities, fitness etc.

Feedback from RBWM carers has highlighted that carers would like support with loneliness and/or social isolation, support finding information, carers support groups and networks, transitioning from a young carer to an adult carer, assistance with finance and applications, enjoying time away from the person they care for, and supporting carers’ emotional wellbeing. Applications may want to address these areas but are not limited to them.

Unpaid carers often do not recognise their caring role and projects may wish to think about how best to reach out to unpaid carers across the borough and ways of engaging carers with different kinds of caring needs (e.g. dementia, SEND, young carers, parents etc.).

Funding for projects will be one-off to cover a period of at least 6 months and applications will need to show how they intend to sustain projects beyond the lifetime of the funding.

We welcome ALL ideas connected to supporting unpaid carers but are particularly interested in supporting projects within the following cohorts & priority areas:

  • Addressing loneliness and/or social isolation
  • Creating or developing carers’ groups
  • Accessing information & advice
  • Transport for carers and cared for residents
  • Parent carers
  • Learning disabilities and neurodiversity
  • Young carers and/or young adult carers
  • Carers’ health and wellbeing
  • Carers’ breaks or respite
  • Connecting carers with each other

To apply, please complete and submit the application form (top right of this page) by MIDNIGHT 24TH MARCH 2025. You should email the application form to jennifer.hardy@RBWM.gov.uk. Please direct any questions to the same email address.
