Almost one million people are living with dementia today. Alzheimer’s Research UK receives little government funding, so we rely almost entirely on donations from individuals, fundraisers, companies and charitable trusts to fund our vital research. This research is both desperately underfunded and urgently needed to help us find an effective treatment for Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Actress Pauline Quirke’s family – star of Birds of a Feather announced that she is living with dementia earlier this year. On 8 December, Pauline’s son, Charlie Quirke, will be going on a five-day trek, walking from Essex to his home in Bourne End, Marlow, covering many miles a day. He will be joined by celebrity friends on the route, to raise both funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Research UK The challenge will run from Monday 8 to Friday 12 December.

Do you have any spare time and would be keen to volunteer at this winter's Night Shelter at The Alma Beacon, Windsor? The Night Shelter is a crucial part of the Windsor Homeless Project, providing a warm meal and a comfortable safe bed for the vulnerable homeless of our town during the coldest months of the year. Last year the Night Shelter ran for 70 nights. This year the plan is more ambitious running for an additional 21 nights including over the Christmas and New Year, and accommodating more guests. This is only possible with the help of wonderful volunteers. They need more volunteers to make this year's Night Shelter a success. No experience needed - just enthusiasm and the desire to make a difference. If you feel you could help making tea & coffee, serving supper, preparing a breakfast or lending a listening ear we'd love to hear from you. To receive further information including shift dates, times and basic training details, please email.

Would you be an Angel? This could include people who are homeless, walking on their own, intoxicated, receiving unwanted attention or just upset and lonely. Could you be one of the team and “love the person in front of you”? For more information visit or email.
