As a Lead Local Flood Authority, the Royal Borough has a duty to develop, maintain, apply and monitor a strategy for local flood risk management. We published the current Local Flood Risk Management Strategy in 2014, and since then there have been significant changes, driven by both national and local policy, as well as the growing threat of climate change. This means that an update is now required.

We have developed a new draft Local Flood Risk Management Strategy for the period 2026 to 2041, setting out a long-term vision for managing flood risk over the next 15 years. The draft strategy includes measures to ensure that its objectives and actions remain relevant throughout its lifespan.

We are now seeking views on this draft Local Flood Risk Management Strategy and invite residents and interested stakeholders to respond to this consultation.

The consultation will be open for six weeks and will close at midnight on Sunday 12 July 2026. If you need help accessing or completing the online survey, you can request assistance at one of our libraries.

Further Background

The strategy is structured around four principles and eight objectives, which set the strategic direction for managing local flood risk across the borough. Each objective is supported by action plans that outline the measures to be delivered over the course of the strategy.

The draft strategy has been developed in partnership with council services and other Risk Management Authorities, such as the Environment Agency. The council has also engaged with parish councils and presented to a range of forums, including the Maidenhead and Windsor forums, and the Rural, Disability and Inclusion Forum.

This reflects our aim for the strategy to be a borough-wide document, supported by residents and stakeholders alike. Flood risk management involves multiple authorities and, in many cases, responsibilities also sit with individual landowners.
