Maidenhead Cycle Hub

The Royal Borough’s support has been vital to the growth of Maidenhead Cycle Hub and the establishment of Windsor Cycle Hub in May 2021. Cycling charities need a lot of space to operate in for both our workshop and shop, without the council’s support identifying and liaising with local landlords it is unlikely that Maidenhead Cycle Hub would have secured the affordable premises that we need.

The Royal Borough has also been instrumental in helping us network with other charities such as Abri, Housing Solutions, Maidenhead Mosque, Maidenhead Magpies and Apna Virsa; these relationships have allowed Maidenhead Cycle Hub to broaden our reach into the wider Maidenhead community and deliver more of our services where they have most impact.

Collaborating with the council has also proven transformative with our charity fundraising efforts. The council’s “Our Community Enterprise” initiative has both educated us to be more successful with grant applications and helped us with applications when advantageous. The support the council provides has allowed us to expand the services we deliver in Maidenhead and to advise Windsor Cycle Hub when they set up in Clewer last year.’

Windsor Cycle Hub

Windsor Cycle Hub has just celebrated its first birthday. We’re a charity, based at The Swan in Clewer, our aim is to encourage cycling within Windsor and the surrounding villages.

We meet every Saturday morning, at 11am our ‘Bike Kitchen’ opens for free basic repairs and safety-checks. There’s a guided ride each week at 11:30. On the first Saturday of the month it’s a ‘Gentle Ride’ – a steady pace, away from traffic and suitable for families. The rides get a little longer, faster and hillier through the month.

The Swan’s a great meeting place, with easy low traffic access to Windsor Great Park and the Jubilee River. We aim to build confidence, and knowledge of quiet places to cycle locally.

We’re grateful for the Royal Borough’s support, it’s helped us to equip our workshop and to publicise our activities. The council also introduced us to the Prince Philip Trust Fund and Abri, who’ve provided additional funding for training.

Recently, we took senior councillors on a ride around Windsor to discuss practical measures to improve cycling infrastructure.

Windsor Cycle Hub is 100% volunteer run, we need new recruits to help us on our mission, interested? See you at The Swan on Saturday.
