Consultation reference: 01/2025

Start date: 25th March 2025

End date: 25th April 2025

Location: Highway verge adjacent to 107 Ruddlesway, Windsor, SL4 5SH

Trees to be removed: 2 Hornbeam and 1 Maple, numbered 156, 157 and 158

Reason for removal

The trees have been implicated in subsidence to the house at 107 Ruddlesway. We received advice from a Structural Engineer and alternative solutions were considered. Unfortunately, underpinning or a root barrier would be prohibitively expensive, the latter also impractical to install. Pruning would not provide a sufficient remedy. If the trees remain the Council will be liable to pay damages.

Replacement Planting

The Council will undertake replacement planting further away from the property next winter.

Consultation Feedback

Number of respondents: 5

Response: 5 disagree with proposed tree removal with 1 positive about replacement planting.

Summary of responses: The trees are beautiful, important in terms of the environment and character of the area and for wildlife. Some concern was expressed that the removal of all three trees wasn't necessary, though this was in the main without sight of the structural engineers report.

Decision outcome: To proceed with the proposed tree removal as set out above.

Replacement planting: 2 Silver Birch and 1 Rowan will be planted further away from the property next winter.
