Thank you for visiting the RBWM project page for Active Travel. This engagement has now ended and the surveys are closed. We thank you for all your feedback and there will be an update at a later date with the outcome of this feedback.

Walking and wheeling are not just good for your health but also for the environment, which is why we are looking to introduce walking, accessible routes and pedestrian area improvements across RBWM. We want to help residents, workers and visitors feel safe to walk or wheel across the borough by connecting areas that have previously only supported car travel or are shared spaces which can often make walkers and mobility assisted individuals feel unsafe in their surroundings. The aim is to deliver lighting, planting, seating and other facilities that will help to enhance and improve access routes and provide security for all active travellers.

Pedestrian spaces are areas that prevent motorised vehicle access and only permit pedestrians, or other active travel users. Pedestrian spaces can be enforced either on a permanent or temporary basis. These areas can be adopted for public use, such as pocket parks, or even pop-up markets. Any plans for pedestrian zones will be informed by feedback received throughout the engagement period and will be discussed carefully with local emergency and bus service providers.

Do you know the quickest route to the shops? Is there a well used path you would take but don't due to poor lighting or obstructions? Is there an existing well used route that needs upgrading to allow for disabled access or shared space for pedestrians and cyclists? Is there an area that we can create new links that would create better routes to popular destinations? Is there an area that you think would benefit from pedestrianisation? Is there an area that is already partially pedestrianised but would be better if it was implemented fully?

We want to hear from you!

Walking has a wealth of benefits for individuals, communities, and the environment. These can include improved health and wellbeing in addition to reduced congestion and improved air quality. We want to create a list of areas that need improving in order to apply for funding to make these requests a reality.

Should no action be taken for the improvement of active travel modes, there is a real concern that the borough will suffer from an increase in congestion, air pollution, traffic collisions, obesity and a decline in accessibility, health and wellbeing, air quality and economic performance.
