Cost of Living

The Green Doctor – our partnership with the Green Doctor (who acted as a stand holder at this world café), provides residents with energy advice and support which can be done through phone consultations or home visits/outreach work. The Green Doctor will be attending future world cafés and hold ‘bill surgeries’ on request within different areas

Support / Advice- Support with energy and water debt by accessing/applying eligible discounts -Practical energy advice to reduce energy waste and lower bills -Checking for cheaper tariffs and deals the community. Another suggested solution for the rising energy bills is the collective purchasing of water butts across the village. Money saving surgeries could be run at the local church or community centre - Assessing bills & explaining statements -Onward referrals for help with food, white goods and warm items -Providing free energy saving measures & explaining their use - Accessing grants for insulation measures or repairs relating to energy performance

RBWM Innovation Fund – This seed funding grant is heavily promoted at all world cafés. Stage 2 of the RBWM Innovation Fund is looking for community led and sustainable projects focusing on cost of living. Project ideas are being reviewed on 3.10.22. Three applications were submitted from Eton Wick’s world café linked into the community solutions stated and direct support was provided to applicants.

OCE RBWM Grants – In addition to the RBWM Innovation Fund, OCE RBWM wide grants offer capacity and capability support for Community and Voluntary groups, residents who are in the process of establishing a group that meets the needs of communities or, groups that are up and running but need support to take it up a level. They also offer fundraising expertise and a range of other services.

One Housing – Supporting Our Residents - Recently opened a new community fund. The fund is available for Community groups, residents, charities etc who can apply to deliver projects for residents in the community. One Housing can also match fund a project. Supporting our residents | OneHousing. Includes ‘Helping Hands’ fund which is delivered by their income Team.

Libraries - attending world cafés providing communities with signposting, face to face advice, and support.

Citizens Advice Bureau – attending world cafés providing advice and support through face-to-face conversations rather than by phone ensuring access. Citizens Advice East Berkshire are working to provide face to face walk in and appointments. As soon as these are in place details will be shared. At the World Cafe Citizens Advice can take names and contact details for follow up by qualified advisors - to ensure confidentiality for those seeking advice. Individual follow ups are being made from Eton Wick world café.

Social Isolation

RBWM Innovation Fund – stage 2 of the RBWM Innovation Fund is looking for community led and sustainable projects focusing on social isolation. Project ideas are being reviewed on 3.10.22. We have supported applications including accessible and warm spaces / access to food promoting connectedness, hubs, outdoor activities to promote community cohesion and coffee mornings.

Digital Ambassadors (Apna Virsa project) – stage 2 of the RBWM Innovation Fund is looking for community led and sustainable projects focusing on social isolation. Project ideas are being reviewed on 3.10.22. We have supported applications including accessible and warm spaces / access to food promoting connectedness, hubs, outdoor activities to promote community cohesion and coffee mornings.

Social Prescribing Team – linking to RBWM Innovation Fund projects and attend every world café providing direct advice and support. They sit within GP surgeries and signpost residents to non - clinical services that can improve their health & wellbeing.

Libraries – This has been fed back to the libraries team who also attend the world cafés providing communities with signposting, face to face advice, and support with IT.

People to Places – attending world café’s - bring people who are socially isolated to event/appointments across RBWM. They are also one of the world café’s facilitators.

Neighbourhood Leaflet Drops - leaflet drops into community neighbourhoods/homes for socially isolated residents ensures access and support re: RBWM world cafés and inclusivity.

Community Wardens – this has been fed back to the community wardens – they are attending, promoting, and engaging residents at our RBWM world cafes.

Schools

RBWM Innovation Fund – stage 2 of the RBWM Innovation Fund is looking for community led and sustainable projects focusing on cost of living which includes sustainable transport. Project ideas are being reviewed on 3.10.22. We have supported applications accordingly

Infrastructure Team – although this is a wider infrastructure issue and it is difficult to address these concerns with community-based solutions, the feedback has been relayed to our RBWM Infrastructure team.

Community Wardens – this has been fed back and community wardens are engaging with residents through our world cafés to support them face-to-face.

Achieving for Children (school’s team) – this had been fed back to the team to investigate

Councillors – this had been relayed back to see if they can support/advocate.
