The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is proposing to introduce charges for the Appointeeship Service provided to residents who lack the mental capacity to manage their own financial affairs and who require the Council to act on their behalf.

The Appointeeship Service supports some of the Borough’s most vulnerable residents by managing their Department for Work and Pensions benefits, ensuring that income is received correctly, bills and essential living expenses are paid, and personal finances are managed appropriately. The service also provides limited financial management support where this is required to safeguard an individual's welfare and ensure that their day-to-day financial needs are met.

Demand for this service has increased over recent years, and the Council has a responsibility to ensure that it can continue to provide a high-quality, sustainable service for those residents who depend upon it. Introducing a charge for the service would help cover some of the costs associated with providing this specialist support, allowing RBWM to maintain the service for current clients and ensure sufficient capacity is available for future residents who require assistance.

The proposed charges would apply to those individuals receiving the Appointeeship Service and would be set in line with the fees currently charged by the Court of Protection for comparable financial management and deputyship services.

Before any decision is made, RBWM would like to hear the views of residents, service users, family members, carers, professionals, and other stakeholders on the proposal. Feedback received through this consultation will help inform the Council's consideration of the proposed charging arrangements and any potential impact on those who use the service.
