Cycle, Fume Free

Borough residents get help to use active transport to get fit, save carbon emissions and some money.

A coalition of environmental groups are joining forces in June to help residents of the borough deal with the increased cost-of living and the growing threat of the climate emergency. ‘Cycle, fume free’ is a month-long series of events with the aims of helping households save money and reduce their carbon footprint.

The initiative builds on the success of ‘COPtober’ which ran last Autumn across the borough to coincide with COP26 in Glasgow. Then, activities were focused on informing RBWM residents on ways to reduce their carbon footprint and improve the environment.

‘Cycle, fume free’ is taking a different approach by directly addressing the two biggest issues facing residents today - the cost-of-living crisis and the climate emergency.

Dave Scarbrough, leading member of The RBWM Climate Community said, ‘Cycle, fume free' brings together a growing number of passionate climate groups in the borough. Our goal is to continue to inform, support and encourage people to make small changes to reduce their carbon footprint. By helping people to save money on their bills we hope that we can engage with even more communities than we did last year.’

Nearly 30 activities will cover a diverse range of topics, from cycle rides, to decorating your bike, to bike mechanics to interviews with cyclists. The activities will run throughout June taking place in Maidenhead, Windsor, Cookham and White Waltham.

Groups involved include The RBWM Climate Community, The Repair Café, Filling Good, The Wilds, the Maidenhead & Windsor libraries and the Council making up over 700 local people who are determined to make a difference for local people and the planet.
