“Menopause & Us: Understanding the South Asian Woman’s Experience”

  • Our symptoms may not always look the same — hot flushes, night sweats, sleep problems, anxiety, brain fog, joint pain, fatigue and changes in weight.
  • Culture and silence — why menopause can be difficult to talk about within families and communities.
  • The impact on identity — confidence, relationships, intimacy, work and feeling like “yourself” again.
  • Weight and body changes — why weight around the middle can become more noticeable and why dieting alone isn't always the answer.
  • Diabetes and heart health — understanding why midlife health matters particularly for South Asian women.
  • Bone and muscle health — the importance of strength, movement, protein and maintaining muscle as we age.
  • Mental wellbeing — recognising that anxiety, low mood, irritability and poor sleep can be part of the menopause transition.
  • HRT and treatment options — busting myths, understanding benefits and risks, and knowing what questions to ask your GP or menopause specialist.
  • When is it “just menopause” and when should I seek help?
  • Our daughters and the next generation — breaking the silence so women don't have to navigate menopause alone.

A powerful conversation starter

“How much of what we experience in menopause have we been taught to accept as simply part of being a woman?”

And perhaps the most important question:

“Are South Asian women getting the right information, support and culturally sensitive care during menopause?”

This was a really powerful interactive talk rather than a traditional presentation women anonymously writing down the menopause questions they've never felt comfortable asking, then having a GP/menopause specialist answer them openly
