In June 2019, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council declared an environment and climate emergency. It is clear that urgent action needs to be taken to mitigate the impact of climate change, which led to the creation of the Environment and Climate Strategy.
Following this, the community group Plastic Free Windsor developed a Single Use Plastic (SUP) Action Plan for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Plastic Free Windsor operates under the umbrella of the Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) Plastic Free Communities campaign. The main objective of the plan is to reduce the use of SUPs within the borough by residents, businesses, schools, and community spaces. At a Cabinet meeting on the 17th of December 2020, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead endorsed the SUP Action Plan.
Updates
In 2022, 25% of the actions within the SUP Action Plan were accomplished.
