Consultation has concluded
This project is now complete and open to the public
We have:
Widened and improved paths for walking and cycling, to make them accessible and more comfortable to use
Introduced traffic calming and changed priorities at junctions, to improve safety
Created 'continuous footways' over the car park entrances, to reinforce the new highway code rules where motor traffic gives way to crossing pedestrians
Created a seamless cycle route from Clewer Village to Alexandra Gardens in the town centre
We are monitoring the effect of these improvements. In the year since opening, 400,000 people have walked, wheeled or cycled along the improved route into Windsor.
Since opening the improved route, we have also opened to the public new covered, access-controlled cycle parking on Stovell Road.
Consultation
The results of the outcome of the consultation are now available to view on this website in the document section titled 'Consultation outcomes'.
The Borough, with the support of local Ward Councillors, therefore, propose the implementation of the scheme and details of the activities for the street works are shown in the document 'Street works - activities and dates' also available to view on this web page.
Finals drawings of the scheme are now available to download in the document section.
Why did we do this project?
To make it easier to get into town, support healthy lifestyles and tackle the climate emergency, we wanted to improve footways and cycle provision on parts of Stovell Road and Barry Avenue, between the Royal Windsor Way underpass and the railway arches.
We wanted to make walking and cycling more practical and attractive for everyday journeys between the town centre and Windsor’s residential areas, as well as for getting to and from the leisure centre.
