Realeyes Guides

Sight loss can take away independence and confidence, and leave those affected isolated. Berkshire Vision supports hundreds of blind and partially sighted children and adults, helping them to live their lives to the full.

Helping our members to be independent is important to us. Many of our members lack the confidence to get out and about but are keen to be able to do tasks such as get the bus or go to the local shop on their own.

As a Realeyes Guide for Berkshire Vision you will be matched with one of our visually impaired Members to accomplish a goal that will help them become more independent. For example, guiding and supporting them to learn and practice a route to the local coffee shop or gym, to navigate a route to the train station, to get a bus into town or to learn the route to work or college.

If you are active and practical and have the patience to guide a someone with sight loss this could be the volunteer role for you.

After each visit, we ask you log the details via an online form.

No prior knowledge of sight loss is required as part of your training will become a Level 1 Sighted Guide.

We ask for around two hours per fortnight.

Please note that applicants for this position need to be aged 18 or over. Our application procedure for this role consists of an application form, 2 references and an a DBS check.
