Summer Cream Tea for the Jolly Codgers Lunch Club at the Woodlands Park Village Centre.

Our Lunch Club members enjoying their freebie 'Summer Afternoon Cream Tea.' The cream tea was held on the Friday after our Fish 'n' Chip Dinner on the Thursday, meaning our members had another social outing to look forward to that week. By organising these events, we hope to help battle social isolation and loneliness, and help build new friendships for our members.

Look to outsource some of your tech. Example - the system to pay for school meals. As a user I can see that's legacy tech that needs constant maintenance/batch processing of files. A lot of good apps out there that other councils have bought into. Look for tech solutions from private sector which you can integrate and lose technical debt at low cost.

I have worked across 5 primary schools in the Highland Council over the last 8.5 years. Try turning off the heating over the summer. That would surely save you millions. There is absolutely no reason why my classroom needs to be 32° because it is hot outside AND the heating is on.

Maintenance of your own properties- decide what is the most cost effective way of delivering this. In house or external? - it will likely be best a bit of each. Don't send 2 employees in a van to fix something in say Durness- which will take 1 or 2 hours (or less) to do the job. The local contractor will be miles cheaper - as you have 3hrs travelling time for 2 workers to get there & Back. Have a look at your workforce planning - are you maximising each workers day/week? are you making best use of the vehicles you give them. do you need as many vehicles as you have ? Do you need to provide vans to workers to take home each day? - wherever is their base is where the van is kept- they use their own transport to get there and back.
