Contribute to discussions around our physical environment within the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. At 12:30pm-13.45pm on Monday every other month, you are invited to join other community members to discuss certain topics and strategies that should be discussed on a large scale to maximise impact, for example RBWM's new Single Use Plastic Strategy. Those involved will work collaboratively to develop projects that build on existing resources to shape the local area in ways that matter most to the community.
This meeting is fully inclusive to anyone in RBWM who would like to join either as an interested individual or representative of a community group (or business) that would like to network and contribute to conversations and activities around the theme of the Physical Environment.
If you would like to contribute to future agendas and shine the spotlight on a community project or share some news please contact the chair on zoemacavoy01@gmail.com to discuss.

The partnership with the borough enabled the right support including a grant fund, and access to the right officers and networks to support the growth of the project, this has driven the success of community projects and supported Green Earth Plan CIC to kick start new initiatives that support the local climate change strategy. Green Earth plan CIC now facilitate the local Physical Environment groups in Windsor and Maidenhead where partners cometogether.
Through the initiative Green Earth Plan lead on a project to plant Clewer & Dedworth’ s first Community Orchard at Sawyers Close in collaboration with Abri and with support from RBWM and Lotus Landscapes.
The Community Orchard is designed to fruit from early summer to late autumn, and is home to 17 different varieties of fruit tree including, apples, pears, plums, cherries, quinces and damsons.
The aim of the orchard was to create a place of beauty, enhancing health and wellbeing as well as providing an opportunity for social gatherings and learning.
The Orchard is one of several urban greening pilot projects designed by Green Earth Plan in collaboration with community action groups under the 'Green Up Our Street' campaign.

The Pallet Planter workshop grew out of a project idea posted on this page, under the ‘Ideas’ tab, with a photo of a planter seen in Surrey made from wooden pallets. Those attending the Physical Environment network meetings agreed that this was an innovative way to give old pallets a new life and cultivate green spaces for very little cost. Councillor Donna Stimson and the Green Skills Library kindly offered to deliver a 2-hour workshop at Maidenhead Library for community members.

We used donated materials (including the pallets, compost, and plants themselves). The workshop was a great opportunity to brush up on some DIY skills as creating the planters from the wooden pieces involved a lot of stapling and drilling. For those with green fingers, we planted a variety of flowers and herbs. Cllr Stimson also provided a lot of interesting information about making your own compost.
The Green Skills Library is an online platform that provides practical and sustainable skills to improve the environment. If you are interested in learning more, please visit theirwebsite.
The library is keen to develop this outside area for community members of all ages to cultivate and enjoy, encouraging sustainable behaviours from a young age. This could include anything from re-using wooden pallets to make planters or community herb gardens. I am excited to see what happens next with this space, after more workshops and engagement.
