Earlier this year we carried out a consultation on a number of proposed improvements to parking and road safety in Sunninghill (see 'Proposal drawings' on the right). We received 418 responses and overall there was strong support for all proposals:

  • Proposal to reline the car park and introduce six short stay parking bays at Upper Village Road Car Park: 327 responses in favour (88%)
  • Proposal to make School Road safer for both motorists and pedestrians by installing additional parking restrictions: 359 responses in favour (85.9%)
  • Proposal to remove a section of parking on the High Street opposite School Road to enable vehicles to pull in to allow vehicles to pass and to introduce additional parking restrictions: 335 responses in favour (90.1%)
  • Proposal to to remove a section of parking in two areas of the High Street to enable vehicles to pass, alongside changing the existing single yellow line restrictions to double yellow lines restrictions: 313 responses in favour (74.9%)
  • Proposal to formalise all the parking bays on Queen's Road, to introduce parking restrictions where it is unsafe to park and to increase the number of 2hr maximum stay bays in the car park: 362 responses in favour (86.6%)
  • Proposal to introduce additional parking restrictions on Bagshot Road: 306 responses in favour (73.2%)
  • Proposal to make School Road one-way from its junction with Upper Village Road and High Street, in order to ease congestion on the High Street and make access for pedestrians safer including school children: 244 responses in favour (58.4%)

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

*This consultation has now closed. Thank you to everyone who has shared their views*

Over the last year, we have been looking at the parking and road safety issues faced by motorists and pedestrians in Sunninghill, including significant congestion at the junction of School Road and the High Street during school drop-off and pick-up times.

We're now asking for your views on our proposed changes to help tackle congestion and improve road safety for both motorists and pedestrians.

The proposals outlined in drawings 1-10 aim to address these concerns with additional parking restrictions, a new one-way system and road layout changes to allow more space for vehicles to pass each other safely, alongside new parking permit schemes for residents and businesses.

To make some roads safer by removing existing on-street parking, we have proposed adding a combination of short and long stay parking spaces to local car parks.

The proposals will be complemented by the introduction of new double yellow lines from the B3020 leaving the High Street near Charters Lane and on Kings Road close to the post office that has already been agreed by the council.
