The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead is pleased to share a toolkit we have created to capture our experience of using Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) and to share best practice.
The toolkit is for for anyone who is looking to work with the community, such as public sector organisations, community organisations and groups. Through collecting stories from our projects, the toolkit demonstrates how local communities can be empowered to create their own social innovations to shape the local area in ways that matter most to them.
Although there is no set formula or one size fits all approach to ABCD, this toolkit instead explains the fundamental principles of the approach. It also highlights the benefits for organisations and communities when the approach is applied. Within the toolkit you will also find useful templates to help you implement your own pilot project.

This project is a fantastic opportunity for our communities within the Borough to work together to improve the health and well-being of local people. This toolkit is designed to support our ambition of integrated working within our local communities.
During the pandemic, we have seen first-hand what a strong and fantastic community we have. Communities have demonstrated that local residents have a huge amount to offer one another in so many ways to improve both mental and physical health, as well as reducing loneliness and social isolation.
Our local primary care networks are committed to continuing this way of working.

I’ve been privileged to be involved with the local ABCD programme as Board Chair. The board has representatives from across public agencies who support individuals and communities living in the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead.
