Josh the E-gardener makes a storage box from a pallet
by donna.stimson, over 4 years ago
The Green Skills Library has recruited Josh for a six month period. He is using pallets to create items that could be helpful to the borough. I wondered if a locked (with a padlock with a code) watertight storage box in some of the parks might be useful, either for residents to store litterpick equipment, or at key sites where gardening events take place?
Please get back to me and let me know what ideas you have.
Thanks, Donna Stimson

Green Up Our Streets - Urban Greening Campaign
by Zoe Macavoy, over 4 years ago
Last weekend Green Earth Plan CIC kicked off their first National Lottery funded urban greening community project under their 'Green Up Our Streets' campaign. Local residents gathered on the green at Duncroft to discuss their ideas and agree how they would like to use this space to benefit both people and the planet!
The 'Green Up Duncroft' plans have been drafted and once final, they will be submitted to the council for approval under a new green space community adoption scheme that Green Earth Plan CIC has been developing alongside the RBWM's Sustainability Team for several months.

The 'Green Up Duncroft' plans have been drafted and once final, they will be submitted to the council for approval under a new green space community adoption scheme that Green Earth Plan CIC has been developing alongside the RBWM's Sustainability Team for several months.
We hope to start planting this autumn before the weather turns and allow new trees, shrubs and bulbs to settle in over the winter months for a nice display in spring and early summer!
The kick-starter funding will support up to 10 Green Up Our Street community projects in Windsor initially, with the aim to attract additional funding to expand across RBWM.
Thank you to local resident John Webb for taking on the role as Duncroft's community lead and to Councillor Helen Price for her continuous support and belief in this community driven initiative across the Clewer & Dedworth East Ward of Windsor. We would also like to thank RBWM's Transformation team and Cllr. Samantha Rayner for their encouragement and support along the way.
If you would like to find out more about adopting a green space or joining this pilot project, please email hello@greenearthplan.org for more information or visit www.greenearthplan.org.

Behaviour Change
over 4 years agoWhat is behaviour change?
Behaviour change is exactly what it sounds like: the practice of changing people's behaviour. Behaviour change models and theories often describe a step-series in a range of numbers to achieve changed behaviour. These models can be applied across a variety of sectors and problem behaviours, for example; quitting smoking, beginning recycling and increasing productivity, to name a few.
What are the six stages of behaviour change?
- Precontemplation - during this stage people are not considering change. People in this stage are often described as "in denial"

What are the six stages of behaviour change?
- Precontemplation - during this stage people are not considering change. People in this stage are often described as "in denial"
- Contemplation - people become aware of the benefits of the change but the costs tend to stand out more. This conflict creates uncertainty about changing
- Preparation - during this stage, you might make small changes to prepare for a larger change
- Action - direct action toward a goal
- Maintenance - involves successfully avoiding former behaviours and keeping up new behaviours
- Relapse - going back to old behaviour
How does this link to this group's main objective?
Objective: Support local people to enhance environmentally friendly behaviours and actions that result in outcomes that benefit individuals and communities.

Pallet Planter Workshop
This workshop grew out of a project idea posted over 2 months ago on this page, under the ‘Ideas’ tab, with a photo of a planter seen in Surrey made from wooden pallets. Those attending the Physical Environment network meetings agreed that this was an innovative way to give old pallets a new life and cultivate green spaces for very little cost. Councillor Donna Stimson and the Green Skills Library kindly offered to deliver a 2-hour workshop at Maidenhead Library for community members.

It was great to see community members, staff, and volunteers working together!
We used donated materials (including the pallets, compost, and plants themselves). The workshop was a great opportunity to brush up on some DIY skills as creating the planters from the wooden pieces involved a lot of stapling and drilling. For those with green fingers, we planted a variety of flowers and herbs. Cllr Stimson also provided a lot of interesting info about making your own compost.
The Green Skills Library is an online platform that provides practical and sustainable skills to improve the environment. If you are interested in learning more, please visit their website.
I am excited to see what happens next with this space, after more workshops and engagement. The library is keen to develop this outside area for community members of all ages to cultivate and enjoy, encouraging sustainable behaviours from a young age. This could include anything from re-using wooden pallets to make planters or community herb gardens...
If you are interested in getting involved please do join our next Physical Environment network meeting or post your ideas/questions/stories here!
