I look forward to every Thursday, meeting my friends and now I run a bring and buy stall and any money we make goes to our fund and it means I am chatting to everybody and any new people I try to make them welcome. It is a big asset to the community as we have many people over 60 years and it can be very lonely, so it means they can come to the club and have a lovely hot meal, have people to talk to and play bingo if they want. There is People to Places that can bring people in wheel chairs if required. When my husband was ill, and couldn't be left on his own, my daughter-in-law came every Thursday to look after him as she knew how important it was to me to be able to go to the club and meet my friends. Also when my husband passed away, I really don't know what I would have done without the thought of going to the club on a Thursday and everyone was so kind. Sometimes Linda, who runs the club, does an afternoon tea, Easter Jubilee etc, and that is a chance to dress up and something good to look forward to. She thinks of some lovely things for us to go to. Henry who runs the Centre and is our lunch club cook is a fantastic person, very kind and has always got time to listen. Without my lunch club, my life would have a big void. Thank you." - Barbara Hatfield.

The area behind me was just full of mainly ivy, covering the first 4-6 of the shed and the whole back area… clearing it as added 3-400 square feet of garden!
I need to now clear the ivy roots from the soil and it’s like clearing the body of all the rubbish we put in. And hopefully the exercise will burn off some of the fat.

I need to now clear the ivy roots from the soil and it’s like clearing the body of all the rubbish we put in. And hopefully the exercise will burn off some of the fat.
I managed to start getting some videos done when I had a few days off work and on reflection, those days were very positive from an intake point of view. I minimised the rubbish and tried to buy fresh good quality food to put in and prepared it with love for my family.
Doing the blogs and videos drove more traffic to my website but also made me more accountable to me and so the net results were better than the days where I didn’t shoot any videos.
Taking time to write more words to go with the videos will hopefully also help get the mind more focused on the task in hand.
I mentioned this idea before but perhaps BLT could help others like me become more accountable to themselves by encouraging others to blog, shoot videos, tweet, whatever social channels you use… make use of them to share what you are trying to achieve.
Good luck with your mission… and do tag us in #blokeslosingtimber
Thank you.

Soup Project - January
by LornaHS, about 3 years agoIn January we held another 2 soup sessions and were joined by around 12 residents. We now have a regaulr group of volunteers joining us which is great! The residents are all really enjoying taking part, and not only enjoying the soup but meeting new people and visiting different places as well. Following on from a january session one resident has bought himself a soup maker and is already making his own soups! Another has tried the one left at the scheme and loved how easy it was to use.

Chair Yoga Update
by UnwindYS, about 3 years agoHello - we are continuing out chair yoga (yoga for people with limited mobility) and have gained a couple of new participants. It has been slower this month, with participants not coming out as much when it is cold or icy or raining, but when the sun is out, people do show up happily, so we are hoping to fill every chair again soon (as spring is on the way, promise!).See you soon,

DraughtBusters are so popular because of the huge rise in energy prices we need some more helpers. Anyone can be a DraughtBuster as full training is given.
If want a visit to fix your draughts, or, you can help others then please email rbwmdraughtbusters@gmail.com or phone 07548 594413 and leave a message.
Our clients are always very grateful. As an example last December Helen from Windsor said "I just wanted to say a HUGE 'thank you' to your volunteers for the insulation they added to my home yesterday. I can really notice a difference and they did a superb and professional job. I am most grateful to them, and you for organising. Thank you again!"
Another example from February 2023 "Andrew and Mike were so kind & helpful. As two women staying on our own, we felt so safe with them around."
Another from April 2023 "It was a delight to meet Neville & Chris and to benefit from their expertise, both in terms of advice and of their very practical DIY skills - they paid a second visit, mutually arranged, having recommended that I invest in a new letterbox, which they were happy to source and then fit!
I can’t thank them - and you – enough for the care and concern you showed from the moment I contacted you. I have already told my neighbours, who are extremely impressed and who will, no doubt, be in touch with you !! …
I am so grateful that Neville and Chris (both of whom were courteous, kind, efficient and a pleasure to have in my home) were able to do so much to secure my comfort in my older-style property."

Savvy Slow Cooking
by Danielle, over 3 years ago
Today saw the start of the Savvy Slow Cooking Course, the course was fully booked and people attended to watch the preparation of a Chilli bean chilli for the slow cooker. The tutor discussed safe freezing, and re-heating of food and how to adjust recipes to taste and the size of a household.Everyone that attended asked lots of questions, tips were shared and a bag with all the ingredients taken home to try out themselves.
We look forward to learning more next week!
