New Year Mobility Yoga Continues
by UnwindYS, over 3 years agoHello - we have been back a few weeks and whilst we had a few cancellations yesterday as it was so icy and that is tricky for people with limited mobility, we still had a nice group of regulars attend their mobility yoga class. The good thing was that the people who called to cancel were so sad to miss the class - and that's good, because it's an indication of how much they like coming and dislike missing classes. Some of our students have made real progress from only doing chair based movements to practising getting off the chair... Hello - we have been back a few weeks and whilst we had a few cancellations yesterday as it was so icy and that is tricky for people with limited mobility, we still had a nice group of regulars attend their mobility yoga class. The good thing was that the people who called to cancel were so sad to miss the class - and that's good, because it's an indication of how much they like coming and dislike missing classes. Some of our students have made real progress from only doing chair based movements to practising getting off the chair without help or using their hands - really difficult if for years you have conditioned yourself and your body to not use core muscles and leg muscles in that situation. So that's excellent progress, and we have given people some gentle and safe "homework", too.
Hope everyone has a good start to 2023!

Soup Project - December 2022
by LornaHS, over 3 years ago
We took our soup project to two new schemes in December within Woodlands Park and Belmont. Both went really well and those that came along to Woodlands park are already looking forward to the next one! 10 people came along and there was lots of soup to take away as well.
Our Belmont outing coincided with the world cafe which provided extra support for those residents attending and they particularly appreciated the warm packs from the Green Doctor.

Maidenhead Boundary Walk
by Edward Piekut, over 3 years agoAfter months of trying have recently received permission to use the Environmental Agencies Sign Posts at Boulters Lock to mount my Boundary Walk Information Board.
They not however happy to use the 4 snap lock type of public posters locations on the back of the Board - so I redesigned it so it would not involve any maintenance at all.

After months of trying have recently received permission to use the Environmental Agencies Sign Posts at Boulters Lock to mount my Boundary Walk Information Board.
They not however happy to use the 4 snap lock type of public posters locations on the back of the Board - so I redesigned it so it would not involve any maintenance at all.
I used Michael Bayley's historical map of Maidenhead as the back information.
I worked with Neil Savin and the Civic Society and the East Berks Ramblers - to discover the history of the Boundary Walk - and have produced an updated version of a 1982 ramblers booklet.
The ramblers in 1982 used the walk as the seed corn for a number of short walks using the Boundary as the start point for each walk.
I will endeavour to update those walks - and make them available to the public,
Neil Savin (a boundary stone hunting colleague) has located 30 of the boundary stones by actually probing for and digging around to find four of them. The Borough bought 48 stones in 1934 for 7 shillings and 6 pence each- so its a mystery where the rest of the stones have gone?
I have reflected the known stone locations in the new Boundary Walk map.
Next actions - to obtain RBWM permission to install and to print out the Info Boards on an 5mm Aluminium substrate and spray with anti-graffitti spray.
Then in order to match the existing fixings on the nearby Environment Agency signs - mount the boards on 9mm marine plywood (cutting the plywood to the size of the boards).
Then need to remove the redundant perspex boxes at the back of the sign posts and the locked box at the front of the sign.
Then screwing the new sign boards on the Sign Posts -
I could take the opportunity to renew the staining on the sign post - might experiment with a clear stain - so that the post is just weatherised and does not look too different - so that it matches the existing sign posts.

2022 & New Year's Resolutions
by windsorstreetangels, over 3 years ago
New Year's Eve is historically the busiest night of the year for the Windsor Street Angels, although lockdowns have reduced the footfall in recent years it's a time where many find themselves vulnerable whether through low moods and loneliness or through enjoying themselves a little too much whilst out with their friends.
Whilst New Years Eve is just one night, 2022 has been a busy year where we have helped over 4000 people, supporting Royal Ascot as well as the night time economy in Windsor as well as important events like the Royal Funeral.

Limited Mobility Yoga - Last 2022 Session
by UnwindYS, over 3 years agoWe have just had our lovely group of 70+ students get together for a Christmassy last 2022 session - gentle yoga with movement and always lots of laughs, plus tea and mince pies after! The group has grown really close, it's SO lovely to see. We look forward to having them back in 2023 as we continue the programme and will probably be able to step it up a little - the participants have become stronger and more mobile and want to challenge themselves to progress gently to be able to do more.Happy Holidays to all,
Sandra

Soup Project
by LornaHS, over 3 years ago
We launched out Soup Project in November with two sessions. They were a great sucess and we had 8 people attend each session, with a few taking soup away with them as well. It was lovely to cook alongside a range of people and share stories and ideas. We have tried some interesting flavours, which have inspired residents to try their own recipes (which we will be collecting for our recipe book).
